Alhamdu lillah we have come to the end of another October, where we have
celebrated and learnt about Black History. Whilst we certainly do not
confine Black History to just one month of the year, we do take the
opportunity to give it a real focus.
Although the current Covid situation prevented our annual trip to the
cinema and outside visitors coming in, we still managed to have a
variety of activities going on.
Each year group took one aspect of Black History that they wanted to
focus on and they presented it to the school through assemblies. These
ranged from role plays, video recordings, poetry and spoken word to food
tasting and quizzes. The subjects ranged from Black Lives Matter to
Nelson Mandela and black sahabah. We also took an afternoon to watch a
Black History movie “Just Mercy” and held a school wide Black Lives Matter poster competition. This year the competition was run by the year 11 students and they picked the winners. All the entries were fantastic and you can see the top 3 below:
