Careers & Work Experience

Helping students choose successful pathways beyond Lady Nafisa School

We aim to provide a broad education designed to enable all students to discover their strengths, and to make the most of their talents within LNS and beyond.

Equipping students with excellent GCSE results is always a priority and at the same time developing skills is equally vital.

We have created a programme for formal careers guidance from Year 9 onwards. Students are encouraged to explore their interests and abilities to find the best path for them. In Years 7 and 8, careers are introduced through different lessons and tutorials.

Students have access to the latest literature via the Careers Board and Life Skills lessons are used to facilitate:

  • CV writing
  • Personal statements
  • Sixth form course choices
  • Making the most of work experience
  • Interview help
  • Apprenticeships

External trips also provide a meaningful way of broadening students’ horizons and knowledge. By providing a wide range of activities and advice the Career Service helps to develop student’s confidence, inform them of their choices and provides support and guidance to ensure they are prepared for whatever their future holds.

Some useful websites for careers guidance:

All students in Year 10 take part in a compulsory one week work experience during February.

Work experience is hugely beneficial for:

  • developing transferable skills, such as communication and teamworking
  • understanding how organisations work or bringing a job they have read about to life
  • building confidence in interacting with adults
  • confirming interest in a career or (equally useful!) deciding it is not for them
  • a foot in the door - if they impress the employer they may be asked back on a more formal arrangement such as an internship or encouraged to apply when vacancies arise.

Students are required to find their own work experience and work with Ust. Sanam (Careers Lead) on developing their CV and reaching out to potential employers.

LNS students have undertaken work experience in a wide range of organisations including the following:

  • The National Archives, Kew
  • RSCPA
  • Hounslow Urban Farm
  • Superdrug
  • Warpole Primary school
  • Malborough Primary school
  • Afters dessert parlour
  • Amin pharmacy
  • Boots

If you would like to offer your workplace as a potential employer, please contact the school office directly.

The school’s careers programme is strong and effective
